Donald Trump met with some MAGA Republicans to discuss the launch of an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden in the days before House Speaker Kevin McCarthy threw his support behind the move, according to a report.
Sources told Politico that the former president has been speaking with House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik every week in the lead-up to Tuesday’s announcement.
He also met Marjorie Taylor Greene in person on Sunday, with the Georgia congress member posting an image of the pair together on Truth Social.
In the meetings, he is said to have been weighing in on the push to impeach his successor.
While Mr Trump is yet to publicly comment on Mr McCarthy’s announcement, he continues to attack his other political rivals on Truth Social.
In a post late on Tuesday, he trolled Ron DeSantis over his poll numbers, calling it a “beautiful” thing that his numbers were declining.
“Few have ever witnessed a drop so fast and so severe. It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it?” he wrote.
This comes after Mr Trump filed a motion to have Judge Tanya Chutkan removed from his federal January 6 criminal case in Washington DC.
