Trump fires Kristi Noem and immediately names replacement

Donald Trump fired Kristi Noem as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday, ending her year-long tenure.
Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin has been nominated by Trump to replace Noem.
Noem's departure follows combative congressional hearings, where she faced bipartisan criticism over the fatal shootings of two protesters and her handling of multi-million dollar advertising contracts.
Trump stated he did not approve a $200 million ad campaign featuring Noem, contradicting her testimony and appearing to be the final reason for her dismissal.
Under Noem, DHS expanded detention centers and hired more immigration enforcement officers, leading to accusations of brutal force and mass detentions.
