President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his support for Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth despite growing concerns over the nominee's confirmation prospects. Hegseth, a former Fox News host and military veteran, faces allegations of alcohol abuse and sexual assault, as well as mismanagement of funds, which have prompted skepticism among some Senate Republicans.
Trump took to Truth Social on Friday, affirming his confidence in Hegseth and characterizing him as a "high energy" leader with strong qualifications. Trump also praised Hegseth's academic background, highlighting his education at Princeton and Harvard. He also claimed he has the "charisma and skill" necessary for the role and declared that Hegseth is "a winner", dismissing reports of wavering support as "fake news."
