Former President Donald Trump criticized special counsel Jack Smith after Smith released nearly 2,000 heavily redacted pages of documents in his 2020 election subversion case against Trump. The documents provided glimpses of the evidence Smith relied on to charge the former president.
During an encounter at a Detroit airport, Trump referred to Smith as a 'deranged lunatic' and remarked that he 'lost Florida,' alluding to the dismissed case brought against Trump by Smith.
Trump vehemently denied any wrongdoing, stating, 'He should’ve never been put in charge of this case, there is no case. I did absolutely nothing wrong.' Trump further characterized the legal actions against him as 'election hunting,' accusing the justice system of being weaponized for political gain.
Trump has persistently alleged that the legal cases against him were orchestrated by President Joe Biden for 'election interference' to benefit the Democrats. Despite Trump's claims, there is no substantiated evidence linking Biden to the prosecutions.
Special counsel Jack Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, a Biden appointee. However, this appointment does not serve as proof that Biden orchestrated the legal actions against Trump. Garland has affirmed his independence and stated that he would resign if Biden ever directed him to take action against Trump.
