- President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that the July 2024 assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a failed Democrat plot.
- “Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA. By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone,” Trump posted Tuesday on Truth Social.
- The president continued: “New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago? This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed. Dirty Cop Christopher Wray should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said.”
- There is no evidence supporting claims of Democratic involvement in the shooting, which killed one rally attendee and injured two others.
- An extensive FBI investigation involving over 1,000 interviews concluded that 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks acted alone. FBI Director Kash Patel stated that Trump was previously briefed on the full investigation at the White House and expressed satisfaction with the findings.
