At a Wednesday rally backing Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley, President Donald Trump described North Carolina as “one of the most violent and one of the worst in the whole nation.” He tied that claim to former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who is now the Democratic Senate candidate.
Cooper’s campaign spokesperson rejected the description when speaking with Newsweek and called it “false.” The spokesperson said, “Independent fact-checkers have called these attacks false – Michael Whatley is getting desperate and it’s shameful that he’s using heinous crimes to try to deceive North Carolinians.”
