Trump brands ICC ‘anti-American’ while demanding members resign

  • Addressing the UN General Assembly , President Donald Trump labeled the International Criminal Court an evil, rogue institution and urged all member nations to resign immediately.
  • Trump declared that the U.S. will not allow American service members or allies to be subjected to trials by the tribunal, which he characterized as having no jurisdiction.
  • “I call on all nations that are members of the ICC to officially resign from this rogue institution immediately,” Trump said in front of the assembly of world leaders. “We will never allow U.S. service members or anyone else to be investigated or given show trials by an anti-American tribunal with no jurisdiction over us.”
  • The president's remarks follow reports that his administration is preparing new sanctions against the court after it issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the address, Trump threatened to either make a peace deal or annihilate Iran , prompting the Iranian delegation to walk out of the assembly.
  • The statements come shortly after a UN fact-finding mission reported reasonable grounds to believe U.S. forces committed war crimes during strikes in Iran.
