Former President Trump is set to deliver remarks at a rally in North Carolina, where he plans to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris over the latest jobs report. The Department of Labor's report attributed the job losses to the impact of hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Trump is expected to blame Harris for the loss of nearly 30,000 private sector jobs and 50,000 manufacturing jobs in a single month. He will accuse Harris of implementing a 'catastrophic economic agenda' that has led to the loss of over 100,000 manufacturing jobs since the beginning of the year.
The latest jobs report from the Labor Department revealed that U.S. job growth slowed down in October, falling short of economists' expectations. Employers added only 12,000 jobs, significantly lower than the predicted 113,000 gain. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1%.
Private sector payrolls contracted by 28,000 in October, contrary to the projected increase of 90,000. The manufacturing sector saw a decline of 46,000 jobs, largely due to strike activity in the transportation equipment manufacturing sector.
Despite the overall slowdown, the health care sector added 52,300 jobs in October, close to its average monthly gain over the past year. The government also added 40,000 jobs, consistent with its average monthly gain.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics noted that Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton had an impact on the employment surveys, with Hurricane Milton hitting the southeast region during the report period.
Trump's criticism of Vice President Harris comes amidst ongoing debates about the state of the economy and job market recovery in the United States.
