New details about Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight have emerged as part of the Future Games Show's Spring Showcas powered by HyperX, as interview with TT Games' Executive Producer Matt Ellison has given as a behind the scenes look at the upcoming superhero open world game: and dear god, are there a lot of costumes for players to find.

The commentary contextualizes and adds details to gameplay footage we've seen before, in which Ellison goes through various highlights and intentions behind the creation of the game. His comment about being a "celebration of all things Batman" definitely makes sense when we see a variety of locations and references to "all the DC lore from comics and films and TV shows." Speaking just for myself, I saw everything from homages to 1992's Batman Returns, to 2015's Arkham Knight, to golden age comic books.
Ellison also talks about the playable character roster: Batman himself, of course, but also Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, Catwoman, Jim Gordon and Talia Al-Ghul. Sorry Red Hood fans, no chance to open fire on minifigures here, but it is worth noting the smaller choice of characters than many Lego games in the past, which often had vast casts of round-headed heroes.
However, that makes more sense when Ellison talks about the fact that each character has bespoke abilities, such as Jim Gordon having a foam gun, as well as progression paths unique to them. Not only that, but "you'll be able to collect a hundred different suits for your playable characters", including Batman and Robin's designs from the original 2008 Lego Batman game. "It's a great way for us to look at the legacy we have with Lego Batman."
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight releases on 29 May, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2.
