'True hero and warrior' girl, 6, dies of rare disease after lump found in stomach

A "true hero and warrior" six-year-old girl tragically died of a rare childhood disease after a lump was found in her stomach.

Isabelle Grundy, from Thornton Cleveleys, was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer in the summer of 2021.

She woke up complaining to mum Louisa Moss that she had a sore tummy and she was off school with a suspected bug.

Her condition became worse throughout the day and Louisa found a lump on the left side of her stomach, reported LancsLive.

After her tragic diagnosis, she was told she had a 50 per cent survival rate - as Isabelle underwent intensive treatment including chemotherapy and blood transplants.

A huge fundraising campaign was launched to help her get special treatment in the USA to ensure the best chance of survival with over £237, 000 raised by the generous community.

However, her parents revealed on Monday, September 12, that brave Isabelle had tragically passed away.

In an emotional statement, her mum, Louisa Moss paid tribute to Isabelle, saying in a statement on social media: “Courageous, Strong, Brave, fearless, a true hero and warrior, she fought until the very end.

"Her fight is finally over and she can rest in peace without any more pain and sorrow.

"Life just simply will not be the same, a void in all our lives, one that we will try to fill with happy and treasured memories and love that she gave immeasurably.

"Our hearts are shattered. No matter how we try to rebuild them there will always be a piece missing. The most precious six years.

“Thank you to everybody who has supported us, helped us and showed so much kindness.

"We will be forever grateful. I know you will all share in our grief and sadness as she touched so many lives, but we hope that you will take solace in knowing that she is now at rest. RIP Our darling girl - until we meet again.”

Isabelle’s heartbroken dad, Blaine Grundy, paid tribute to his daughter, publishing his first and last photographs of her on social media in a post.

He said: “My first and last photo of Isabelle. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of her life, she was truly special and there's nothing in this world that could replace her."

He continued: "I will miss my baby girl till my very last breath.”

The announcement was greeted with an outpouring of tributes and emotion.

Her aunt, Jade Moss, said as part of a statement on social media: “You were an inspiration to lots of people.

"You kept going through every single hurdle that was put in front of you. What a fight you put up right until your very last breath.

"You were the most beautiful little girl. The most kind, caring, loving, sassy, fierce, brave, happy and an unbelievably strong little girl and most of all a little warrior.

"You feared nothing and pushed on through everything. I was so lucky to be a huge part of your life.”
