Troy Cooley set to be bowling coach of Indian women's cricket team

MUMBAI: In a big boost to Harmanpreet Kaur & Co, the BCCI is set to appoint Australia's Troy Cooley as the bowling coach of the Indian women's team for the upcoming T20 Tri-series in South Africa and the T20 World Cup in the same country, TOI has learnt.

The Women's T20 Tri-series, between India, South Africa and West Indies will kick off on January 19, while the T20 World Cup will start on February 10.

Since 2021, the 57-year-old Cooley has been the fast bowling coach at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He had recently accompanied the India A side on its tour of Bangladesh.

"The decision to ask Cooley to take up the bowling coach role with the Indian women's cricket team was taken by (former India batting great) NCA chairman VVS Laxman. A formal announcement in this regard will be made soon," a reliable source told TOI.

Former India batsman Hrishikesh Kanitkar is the batting coach of the Indian women's team, and is likely to play the role of the interim head coach too.

During India's home T20I series against Australia in December, which saw the hosts concede 170-plus in all the 5 games, Harmanpreet admitted that her side were missing a bowling coach, though she stressed that her bowlers were taking control of the situation.
