Tropical Storm Earl moves over Atlantic as weather experts track whether it could hit Ireland

Hurricane Danielle has caused no major damage to Ireland yet - but Tropical Storm Earl is following close behind and could be even worse.

Ireland has seen a week of mild but wet weather, with a few thunderstorm warnings in place before they expired on Wednesday evening.

And although the weekend is set to see a slight improvement in conditions, next week has the potential to see prolonged showers as the two storms bite back.

Danielle and Earl are once again heading our way next week after battering America with winds in excess of 30mph predicted and plenty of rainfall when they arrive on these shores.

Meteorologist Domenica Davis of weather.com explained: "Hurricane Earl has seen warnings issued for Bermuda for a category 3 hurricane on Friday. It could potentially strike the eastern coast of the US."

The danger for us is that it will then head eastwards - right across the Atlantic Ocean and right our way.

Jo Farrow, a senior forecaster at Netweather, said: "There looks to be a lull from the showery downpours this weekend but tropical cyclones in the Atlantic are adding uncertainty to the forecast.

"Danielle will transition into an extratropical cyclone that could affect western Europe, with Earl swirling further west."

That further west includes the southern half of Ireland, with main eye skirting around the bottom of the island around September 20 before moving southwards.
