Trio charged with murder after man found dead in wheelie bin

The body of Thomas Niven was found in a wheelie bin in Cash’s Park in Coventry - (West Midlands Police/PA)

Three people have been charged with murder after a body was found in a wheelie bin in Coventry.

Thomas Niven, 37, was found dead in Cash’s Park off Daimler Road, Coventry, on March 13.

Tammy Sturdy, 45, Camron Sturdy, 21, and Shane Turkington, 37, have all been charged with murder following Mr Niven’s death, West Midlands Police said.

All three suspects, from Coventry, have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

Support for the victim’s family is still being provided by specially trained officers, police said, adding that the force’s thoughts remain with everyone who knew him.

In a statement previously released through police, Mr Niven’s family said they were “in shock and are devastated” at his death.

They added: “He was a pillar of strength towards us all. He was loving and caring, he loved all of his family, he was a big softy when it came to animals and his nephews and nieces.”

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact them by calling 101 quoting incident number 4148 of March 13.

Information can also be provided anonymously through independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
