'Tridemic' of winter bugs could hit strained health services, as cases rise

Doctors have already warned of concerns the UK will face a twindemic of Covid-19 and flu but now a third virus could add to the pressure. Medics in America have said as winter approaches there could be a tridemic as cases of respiratory syncytial virus or RSV rise across the globe.

And in the UK doctors have told parents to watch out for RSV which can be serious, especially in children and older people, with cases seeing a sharp rise. The virus usually has cold-like symptoms with about 20,000 hospital admissions in under-ones in the UK a year.

However according to the UK government infections increased by 8.3 per cent in the week ending October 30 as experts fear some young children may not have built up any immunity to bugs like RSV and flu. With warnings of similar concerns over both influenza and Covid-19 it means there could be added pressure on the NHS.
