Leading figures from across the South Ayrshire political spectrum have put aside their differences today to pay tribute to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
News of the Monarch’s death sparked a wave of emotion and heartfelt tributes across the county.
The new King, King Charles III, has now ascended the thrown.
South Ayrshire Council's Chief Executive, Eileen Howat, will make a public proclamation around the Accession to the throne of Charles III on Sunday, September 11 at 1.30pm.
This will take place at the shore door of County Buildings.
Those who wish to attend are invited to gather in the St Germain-En-Laye Gardens located at the front of County Buildings in Ayr.
South Ayrshire Provost Iain Campbell said: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. For 70 years, she has been the head of the British Royal Family and our longest serving monarch.
“For seven decades she has been a steady presence and served the nation and the Commonwealth with unparalleled devotion.”
He added: “Her Majesty touched the lives of so many. We will never see her like again.”
Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock SNP MP, Allan Dorans, said he would be remaining in London this weekend to pay his respects and take part in tributes to Her Majesty.
He said: “At some stage over the next few days, in Parliament, I will offer the condolences of my constituents of the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Parliamentary constituency to The King, The Queen Consort and the wider Royal Family.
“It is right and proper that we celebrate the unparalleled contribution The Queen made in her 70 years as Sovereign.
“The next few weeks are a time for reflection and remembrance. It is also a time for giving thanks to The Queen for her devotion to duty and the decades of public service she gave to the people of Scotland.”
South Scotland Conservative List MSP, Brian Whittle said: “While relatively few of us will have been fortunate enough to have met Her Majesty, we have, all of us, in some way known her, and she has known us.
“I send my deepest condolences to the Royal Family, who not only mourn the loss of their Queen but their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”
South Scotland Labour List MSP, Colin Smyth, said: “First and foremost, we should remember the Queen was a very much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. My thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty’s loved ones.
“May Her Majesty rest in peace.”
South Scotland Conservative List MSP Sharon Dowey said: “I like the rest of the nation was devastated to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“Over her seven decades as our monarch, Queen Elizabeth II was a constant, steadying presence in the life of the nation.
“My thoughts and condolences are with His Majesty King Charles III and the rest of the Royal Family.
“God save the Queen. Long live the King.”
SNP MSP for Ayr, Siobhian Brown, said: “My deepest condolences to the family of Queen Elizabeth II on the sad news of her passing. It is a sad day for many and I also pass my condolences to them.
“Duty always came first to the Queen and she gave a life time of service to the country. May she rest in peace.”
