DH Peligro, a drummer for the Dead Kennedys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has died aged 63 from an accidental fall.
The Dead Kennedys announced the death in a Facebook post.
"Dead Kennedys' drummer D.H. Peligro (Darren Henley) passed away in his Los Angeles home yesterday, October 28th," the post reads.
"Police on the scene stated that he died from trauma to the head caused by an accidental fall.
"Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the coming days.
"We ask that you respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."
The band thanked the public for their thoughts and words of comfort.
Born Darren Henley on July 9, 1959, Peligro joined the Dead Kennedys in 1981 replacing the San Francisco-area punk band's original drummer.
The band broke up in 1986 before reuniting in 2001.
Between that time Peligro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988.
He helped write three songs on the bands fourth album, Mother's Milk, however he did not perform on that album.
Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea (Michael Balzary) left a tribute for Peligro on Instagram.
"I'm devastated today, a river of tears, but all my life I will treasure every second," Flea wrote.
"The first time I saw you play with the DK's in '81 you blew my mind. The power, the soul, the recklessness."
He described Peligro "as a wild man, bringer of joy and giant hearted man".
"We had so much fun, so much joy, having each other's backs. I love you with all my heart.
"You are the truest rocker, and a crucial part of rhcp history."
