Tributes pour in for missing Cavan man Edward Reilly after body found in the Netherlands

An Irish community has been left devastated after the body of missing Cavan man Edward Reilly was found in the Netherlands on Friday.

Edward, who was described as "absolute gentleman" and "incredibly witty", was reported missing on February 18.

He was last seen while out socialising with friends at Café Het Stiege in the centre of Almere Buiten.

Edward was originally from the Corfree, Loch Gowna, Co. Cavan, but had been living in the Netherlands for a number of years.

During a search of Lage Vaart, a large body of water between Almere and Amsterdam Edward's body was found by Dutch police.

Tributes have poured in for the "effortlessly funny" man after news of the tragedy broke.

Sharing their condolences on rip.ie one friend wrote: "I was lucky enough to know Eddie, and count him as a friend, many moons ago, when he first moved to Dublin. Eddie was an absolute gentleman and always a pleasure to be around. He was incredibly witty and had such a positive outlook on life.

“Fear uasal amach is amach. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis”.

A second wrote: "I lived with Eddie from 2003 to 2007. We had some laugh back in those days, and in the years since. He was a great pal of mine and i'll miss him for the rest of my life. Deepest condolences to his family."

While a third said: "I was lucky enough to have known Eddie when he lived on Primrose Street in Dublin. Always great company, he was such an easy going character and effortlessly funny. So sorry to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to all his loved ones."

"Words can't really do Eddie justice.

"It was a pleasure to have him in my life. He was really loyal to his friends and had that rare ability to make you feel very special. He also had a brilliant mischievious sense of humour which was backed up by his unique laugh!

"My deepest sympathies to his family. He truly was one in a million. He will be missed," commented a fourth.

Edward will be reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan on Wednesday evening from 5.00pm until 7.00pm.

A funeral notice reads: "Removal from his home on Thursday morning at 11.40am to the Church of the Holy Family, Loch Gowna, to arrive for Requiem Mass at 12.00 noon. Interment afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

"Family flowers only please, donations in lieu, if desired, to Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, C/o Declan Finnegan Funeral Director of any family member or donation box provided. House strictly private please."
