The teenage boy killed in a horror tractor accident over the weekend in Mayo has been named as 13-year-old Kyle Pilbrow.

The first year student and keen GAA player was the sole occupant of the tractor at the time of the accident, Galway Beo reported.

He was treated at the scene for injuries before being transported to Galway University Hospital. From there, he was taken to Temple Street in Dublin but sadly passed away there on Sunday.

After arriving at the scene, the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a forensic examination at the scene.

Following the devastating news, locals paid tribute to Kyle across social media.

In a statement, St Colman’s College in Claremorris said its community was “deeply saddened” by Kyle’s sudden and tragic death.

“We will all miss him terribly as a school community and we are keeping his mam and dad and his three brothers, Ethan, Alex and Morgan, in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

“May Kyle’s gentle soul Rest in Peace,” the statement from the school published on social media said.

Another person said: "Rest in peace Kyle. Sincere condolences to his family and friends," while a second person commented: "Absolutely heartbreaking.. cannot imagine the pain that family is feeling tonight... condolences to all. R.I.P Kyle."

A third local said: "There are no words at a time like this. The poor little angel taken far too soon. Any parents' worst nightmare. It has saddened us all that no words can express. Rest in Peace, Kyle."

Tom Connolly, a local Fine Gael Cllr, told Galway Beo: "I send my sincere sympathy to the family of the victim. It is a tragedy. Everyone is devastated. It's very tragic for it to hit this small community, a very tight knit community. But everyone will pull together to support the family. He was just 13 years of age. It's just all very sad."

In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle traffic collision in County Mayo on Saturday, 20th May, 2023. They added: "The boy was subsequently transferred to Temple Street Hospital, Dublin where he passed away earlier today, Sunday, 21st May 2023. A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road at the crash site has since fully reopened to traffic.
