Tributes paid to Scots councillor and LGBTQ activist after cancer death

Tributes have poured in for a former Aberdeen City Council leader and LGBTQ activist following his death at 49.

John Stewart, from Kilmarnock, sadly passed away on Saturday after a brave battle with cancer.

Mr Stewart, who was one of the first to wed in Scotland when civil partnerships became law in 2005, was initially elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Berryden in 2003.
