Tributes have been paid to former Perth and Kinross Provost Mike O'Malley who died at the weekend.
The former Labour councillor was Provost from 1999 to 2003.
Perth and Kinross Council and local politicians have paid tribute to the "thoughtful and friendly" former Provost.
The council announced his death on social media on Sunday evening calling him "a proud ambassador for the area at home and abroad".
A PKC spokesperson added: "He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time."
Former Perth and Kinross Labour councillor John Flynn paid tribute to his former colleague and friend of over 50 years.
John and his wife Moira were great friends with Mike and his late wife Kate. John spoke fondly of Mike's "quick wit".
He told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: "Mike and I go back over 50 years. We worked together at British Telecom and were union representatives there.
"It was my wife's father - Cllr David White - who suggested he stood as councillor for North Muirton."
That was in the 1980s and a few years later John ended up on the council alongside Mike when John took over from his father-in-law as Labour councillor for North Letham.
John - who stood on the council for 29 years until 2017 - said: "Mike was a real people person. He loved the craic and was a great socialiser. He was also an excellent golfer."
Mike O'Malley eventually went on to become the council's first Labour Provost in 1999.
Current Provost Dennis Melloy said he was "extremely saddened" to hear the news.
He added: "I knew Mike and his family for many years, long before he was Provost. He was always a big man with a big heart and stood for no nonsense.
"He put his heart and soul into being a ward councillor, and as the Provost of Perth and Kinross in 1999 - a position he proudly held for four years. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
"Colleagues who worked with Mike say he was a larger than life personality who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew them.
"He cared passionately about Perth and Kinross and was a proud ambassador for the area at home and abroad, visiting and acting as a warm and convivial host to our twinning partners during his tenure as Provost between 1999 and 2003."
Speaking 25 years - to the day - after the floods of January 17, 1993 Provost Melloy added: "He will also be long remembered for his work on behalf of his Perth constituents following the devastating floods of 1993 and for the legacy of the Perth flood defence scheme for which he was an ardent campaigner.
“Both as councillor and as Provost, Mike was a great servant to Perth and Kinross and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him."
Perth City South Lib Dem councillor Willie Wilson said: "Big Mike as he was popularly known had a big heart, a big smile and a huge zest for life. He was always thoughtful and friendly.
"I will remember him especially for his phrase 'thank you kindly' when he acknowledged help or support. It was a privilege working with him in the council .
"His lovely late wife Kate was a superb support to him in every respect when Mike was Provost."
Perthshire North MP Pete Wishart said: "Mike was Provost when I was first elected and showed nothing but kindness and support. A true servant of the people of Perth and Kinross and will be sorely missed. My thoughts with family and friends."
