Tributes have been paid to a Limerick "gentleman" and "soccer stalwart" following his sudden passing.

"All at the club know of his huge contribution to the club in different roles throughout the years and are massively grateful for his efforts.," they said, cancelling all training and matches in respect for James and his bereaved family.

One tribute described James as "top class student, colleague and person."

"His presence on the corridors of Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) will be greatly missed but always remembered," they added in tribute to the father-of-one.

Claughan GAA club paid tribute to the legend in Limerick sporting circles, describing James as a gentleman and a great clubman of his beloved Fairview Rangers and a "great supporter of all sports in Limerick."

"James had an exquisite personality that brought smiles to many faces. James was always willing to give a helping hand in any fundraising that went on for the club. A great loss to the community of Limerick," they added.

Another heartfelt condolence expressed their sympathies saying James was a great neighbour to have. "Thinking of Fiona and baby Jack always in our prayers," they expressed.

James is the beloved partner of Fiona Geraghty, proud dad of Jack, dearest son of Irene and the late John and loving brother of Jean-Claire.

He is sadly missed by his family, Fiona’s parents David and Aine and her brothers Dave & Ian, James’ uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives & his many many friends.

His reposing will be at Griffin’s Funeral Home, John’s Gate, Limerick on Monday, February 20, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Funeral will arrive to St. John’s Cathedral on Tuesday, February 21 for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in Mount St. Lawrence Ext. Cemetery.

One final condolence said: "It was always a joy to meet James in the neighbourhood. An exceptional human being with a lovely smile. May he rest in peace."
