Tributes have been paid to a "gentleman" who was tragically found dead yesterday - 24 hours after being reported missing by his worried family. Veteran Colin McKerrell, who is understood to have served in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, disappeared in Irvine, Ayrshire, at around 10am on Monday, September 19.
Police launched a search for the 58-year-old, however, his body was discovered near Mochrum Hill, Maybole, at around 10.10am on Tuesday. Colin's death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Since the news of his tragic passing, Colin's heartbroken friends have taken to social media to pay their respects.
Louise Cooke posted: "RIP Col. So, so sad to hear of your passing today you were an outstanding colleague and great friend for many years, always so jolly and there for everyone who needed you. I will miss you and our wee chats."
Al Penman wrote: "RIP Colin it was a pleasure to have served with you."
Joan Savage added: "A gentleman always. Will be sorely missed love and condolences to all family and friends."
Libby McArthur posted: "Truly heartbroken such a lovely lovely man sleep tight."
Dawn Gilmour said: "RIP Colin you cheery face and cheeky humour will be missed by everyone in the dog world."

A statement from Police Scotland said: “The body of a man found near Mochrum Hill, Maybole, around 10.10am on Tuesday, September 20, has been formally identified as 58-year-old Colin McKerrell.
“His family have been informed and request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
