Tributes paid to former Maghull Mayor and 'wonderful' nan

A family has paid tribute to an "amazing" nan who "always made Sunday lunch" for everyone.

Elizabeth Anne Harrison, affectionately known as 'Anne' died on February 22 and was well known in Maghull having served as the town's Mayor on two occasions. Her son Graham said described Anne as a "lovely mum" who touched many people's lives.

Before venturing into local politics Anne spent most of her career as a secretary and since her death, Graham said the family has been flooded with messages of support, which he says is a testament to the person she was.

Graham told the ECHO: "I don't know where she got her generous spirit from, it was just in her nature to be generous.

"She was wonderful and she supported me, no matter what and you know what teenage boys are like. She was never too hard on me or anything like that.

"She doted on her grandchildren as most grandmothers do. She helped to bring up her grandson Jonathan, she saw him like a son."

Anne was born in Anfield before moving to Maghull after she got married to her husband Frank in 1961. In her later years, Anne suffered from Alzheimer's but kept making the Sunday dinner for her family until she "physically could not do it any longer."

Graham who is 60 said: "Even when she was old she would drive everyone around if they ever need to go somewhere. She would always do the Sunday lunch for all of us, I think she liked doing that.

"Now she has died I have appreciated how many lives she has touched and I do feel proud about that. Maybe when I get older I can do just a little of what she has done. I think it has rubbed off on me a little bit but I don't do as much as she did."

Anne died at the age of 88 and is survived by her two sons and three grandchildren.
