Their daughter Michelle Heggie said: “They were a lovely couple - everyone in Merthyr knows them because they ran the pet stall for all those years.

“I was very proud of them and wanted them to have the best of everything for their funeral because of what they did for us as a family.

“It was awful losing them both in such a short time but we have taken comfort from that and it means they were able to be buried together.

“It was fitting because they were inseparable in life.”

The funeral service was held at High Street Chapel in Merthyr, where the couple were married.

Shoppers and business owners lined the street on Thursday December 16 as the couple’s white coffins were carried into the glass hearses.

Traffic came to a standstill as the magnificent four black stallions gracefully took them to Cefn Coed cemetery.

The couple leave three daughters Michelle, Rhian and Zoe along with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
