Tributes paid to beloved Lanarkshire football first aider after losing battle with cancer

Warm tributes have been paid to a beloved Lanarkshire football first aider who passed away following a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

John Quinn, affectionately known as Dr Quinn, offered wonderful support to Airdrieonians Community Club for "a number of years".

The 47-year-old was a huge fan of the Diamonds and has been described as having "a heart of gold".

A message on the Youth Football Scotland (YFS) Facebook page which John's friends wanted to share read: "Affectionately known as Dr Quinn to Airdrieonians Community Club after being the first aid person for a number of years, John loved to support the boys' and girls' teams.

"His son and daughter both love playing for the club. It wasn't ever about results but ensuring the boys and girls had fun and were included was his passion.

"John had a heart of gold, making time for everyone and would put everyone before himself.

"John met some amazing and inspirational people he was proud to call his friends.

"His memory will live on through Aidan, Jack and Grace.

"The family would like to thank the club for their support through his illness. Despite his best efforts, John's body could no longer cope with the cruel disease."

A statement on Airdrieonians FC's website said: "The club were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Diamonds fan and Community Club assistant John Quinn.
