Tributes flood in for 'incredible' Scots mum found dead on beach as locals hail community champion

A woman who died suddenly on an Ayrshire beach has been named locally as community champion Shirley Morgan, who worked tirelessly to help others.

Dozens of heartfelt tributes have poured in after the 49-year-old mum sadly passed away in Stevenston on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have confirmed that Shirley’s death is not believed to be suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The Ardrossan Community Development Trust issued a moving statement in memory of the popular volunteer, who they said has “truly gone too soon”.

The 49-year-old was well known and loved in the local area (UGC)

They said: “North Ayrshire, the Three Towns and Ardrossan are in mourning at the loss of the incredible Shirley Morgan.

“Shirley was a colleague, supporter and friend to community groups throughout the region and an avid supporter of community wealth building and development and will be sorely missed by many.

“A unique person whose heart was deeply rooted in her community.

“ACDT would like to pass their sincere condolences to all colleagues, friends, family and community which were a huge part of her life.

“We are all struggling to come to terms with this sudden loss, which will be felt by many for years to come.

“Her amazing smile will never be forgotten. Truly gone too soon.”

They added: “There are many, many people; colleagues, friends and, most importantly, family that will feel this sad loss.

“Our region will feel this loss for many years and the legacy of what she sat at the heart of will be a testament to her commitment to her 3 Towns and beyond.”

Another tribute on social media from local Labour councillor Nairn McDonald said: “Just heard this heartbreaking news.

“My thoughts are with her family, friends and the thousands of people she helped through the years. She was one of a kind and we are all so much better for having had the privilege of knowing her.”

Emergency services were called to Stevenston beach on Tuesday afternoon following Shirley’s sudden death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The death is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and enquiries are ongoing.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
