Trevor Lawrence says foot was hurting, but ‘not anything serious’

Jacksonville Jaguars fans feared the worst when quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down and reached for the back of his knee after an awkward sack Sunday. Then there came a couple sighs of relief.

First, when Lawrence managed to walk off the field under his own power. Then there was even more relief when Lawrence jogged out of the tunnel early in the third quarter and played the second half.

“I thought it was my knee at first, and then my foot a little bit was hurting too,” Lawrence told reporters after the game. “Luckily, nothing serious. We’ll have to see how I feel tomorrow. I’m going to be a little sore but thankful it’s not anything serious. I was worried it was my knee, but I don’t think it is. I feel better than I thought I would.”

In addition to finishing with 179 passing yards and a touchdown in the blowout loss to the Detroit Lions, Lawrence showed his mobility wasn’t compromised when he scrambled multiple times in the second half. Lawrence finished with 32 rushing yards on four carries.

Last week, the Jaguars were cautious with Travis Etienne Jr. after the second-year back suffered a foot injury. While he was cleared to return, Jaguars coaches opted to keep him on the sideline during the team’s comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Jaguars weren’t as cautious with Lawrence, despite the lopsided score.

“Took a look at him at halftime and our doctors did a great job of making sure that there was no risk for further injury,” Pederson explained. “And he was good, he even – I saw him and he said he was ready to go and did a nice job.”

Lawrence now has 17 touchdowns on the season with six interceptions.
