Trevor Lawrence: ‘If I can, I’ll be out there’ vs. Titans

Jacksonville Jaguars second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence says he intends on playing against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but he also isn’t making any promises.

“That’s the plan,” Lawrence told reporters Wednesday after sitting out the day’s practice. “All I can do is take it day by day, and if I can, I’ll be out there.”

Lawrence, 23, is dealing with a sprained toe that he suffered on the final play of the first half during the Jaguars’ 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions. After initially fearing he injured his knee — which he said Wednesday was the biggest injury scare he’s ever had playing football — Lawrence returned in the second half against the Lions.

“I’m feeling better today than I was Monday and yesterday,” Lawrence said. “A little bit of the soreness is going down a little bit. Obviously, still sore and taking it day-by-day, but fortunate, for sure. I feel pretty good.

“After the game and Monday, it was really sore. It stiffened up on me, but I kind of dodged a bullet for sure on that hit.”

Lawrence hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career and was spotted Tuesday wearing a protective shoe to immobilize his injured toe. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said he’s hopeful Lawrence will be able to practice this week, but he’d be comfortable with the quarterback missing all three practices and still playing Sunday if he’s healthy enough.

Through 12 games this season, Lawrence has thrown 17 touchdowns with six interceptions and has a passer rating of 92.8.
