Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence wants to play Thursday against the New Orleans Saints.
“I’m gonna do everything I can to be out there,” Lawrence said Tuesday after practice. “I feel a lot better today than I would’ve thought. So I’m progressing and I’m gonna do everything I can to be out there.
“With any injury, it’s a fine line of how much do you push? … You’re trying to do everything you can, obviously, to play, but then you don’t want to hurt yourself worse. All those things. I feel good with where I’m at right now so we’re just taking it day by day.”
Lawrence, 24, suffered a knee injury in the final minutes of the Jaguars’ 37-20 win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. While the team didn’t hold practice Monday, the Jaguars estimated that Lawrence would’ve sat out if they had one.
On Tuesday, Lawrence joined his teammates on the practice field, but wore a brace on his injured knee.

“It’s obviously not as comfortable as not having one on,” Lawrence said of the brace. “But I’m trying to do what’s best and trying to put myself in position to be safe and feel comfortable. It’s not comfortable, in general, just because you got a big thing on your leg, but I felt pretty good moving around.”
Lawrence later said he’s probably wear the brace if he plays Thursday.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson didn’t offer any hints Monday when asked about Lawrence’s status. Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard didn’t seem convinced that he’d be called into action, though. After practice Tuesday, Beathard told reporters that “it’s still very likely” Lawrence plays Thursday.
Lawrence has never missed a game in his career since getting picked with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL draft.
