Treatment in phone light: Sasaram hospital staff served notice by DM

SASARAM: Rohtas DM Dharmendra Kumar on Saturday visited the trauma centre of Sasaram Sadar hospital and served show-cause notice on its health manager after a video showing the staff dressing the wounds of a person with gunshot injury in cellphone light on Friday went viral on social media.

The DM also scolded the district programme manager (DPM) and hospital employees for mismanagement. He also formed an inquiry team to submit a report for stern action against the erring staff, an official said.

Rohtas civil surgeon in-charge Dr Ashok Kumar Singh said work had been initiated for uninterrupted power supply to the trauma centre at the Sadar hospital.

Dr Brajesh Kumar, doctor on duty on Friday night, admitted that he used his cellphone light for treatment of the injured due to frequent power cuts, which is common for them.

Another doctor, preferring anonymity, said despite their requests to the authorities concerned for uninterrupted power supply were ignored. He said even the electricity inverters are lying defunct and the light of cellphones is the only option for treatment in night.

Sources said the trauma centre is also running short of cotton and plaster of paris, a basic essential required, and requisition to the headquarters for the supply of these items failed to fetch desire result.

Hospital DPM Madhukar Singh admitted the shortage of these items, but denied the charge that the patients were forced to purchase cotton and PoP from the market.
