Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is travelling to Jakarta to attend the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors' meeting.

It will be Indonesia's first ministerial meeting of the G20 under its presidency and the first Mr Frydenberg has been able to attend since the pandemic began.

Among the topics to be discussed at the meeting - spanning February 17 and 18 - will be the global health system and the economic recovery, international taxation and infrastructure.

"The G20 meetings hosted by Indonesia this year come at a time of heightened global economic uncertainty, with the pandemic causing supply chain disruptions, workplace absenteeism and the return of higher inflation," Mr Frydenberg said.

"Through the G20 we have an important opportunity to work collaboratively with our global partners to continue to respond to the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, and to back in the global economic recovery."

He said the meetings are also an important opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to an open, free, rules-based trading system against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical tensions and rising strategic competition.

"Australia also has a strong story to tell in combating many of these global challenges with our economic recovery exceeding all expectations," the treasurer said.

The G20 leaders' summit is set to be held in Bali in October.
