'Vikings' star Travis Fimmel is set to reprise his role as Detective Cormack in the upcoming second season of the Australian mystery drama series 'Black Snow.' The six-part series is currently in production in Queensland, Australia, and has released initial images giving fans a glimpse of what to expect.
In a statement, Fimmel expressed his pride in the strength of Australian film and television, especially with the growing influence of streaming platforms that allow local productions to gain recognition globally.
The first season of 'Black Snow' garnered critical acclaim, receiving a nomination for 'most outstanding drama series' at the 2023 Logie Awards and securing two nominations at the 2024 AACTA Awards for best drama series and Fimmel's performance as the lead actor.
The series successfully reached international audiences, including the U.S., where it was featured on AMC Networks' streaming service Sundance Now. Additionally, 'Black Snow' was honored with the Screen Business Export Award at the recent Australian Screen Producer Awards.
The upcoming season of 'Black Snow' will see Detective Cormack tackling two distinct missing persons cases, one professional and the other personal. The storyline follows his investigation into the disappearance of a woman from her 21st birthday party in 2003, as well as his quest to find his own younger brother who vanished during their childhood.
New additions to the cast include Jana McKinnon, Megan Smart, Alana Mansour, Dan Spielman, Victoria Haralabidou, and Kat Stewart. The series retains its core team with director Sian Davies, executive producer Rosemary Blight, and series creator Lucas Taylor, along with the addition of director Helena Brooks.
Produced by Goalpost Pictures, 'Black Snow' is labeled as a Stan Original in Australia and is produced in collaboration with All3Media International and Sundance Now, with financial support from Screen Queensland, Screen NSW, and the City of Gold Coast. Global distribution is managed by All3Media International.
Travis Fimmel, known for his role in 'Vikings,' has also been involved in the Queensland-based drama 'Boy Swallows Universe' for Netflix and is reportedly linked to a 'Dune' prequel series on HBO Max.
