Brits’ travel hell continued today as Eurostar passengers were urged not to travel over power issues in France, amid other issues on train lines and flights.
Thousands of people have suffered nightmares during the half term holiday with scores of flights cancelled and delays causing misery for families.
The theme has continued today as Eurostar warned people not to travel today owing to a power supply issue reported in France.
The problems have potentially stranded thousands trying to get home ahead of schools returning this week.
A spokesman said on Twitter : “We strongly urge NOT to travel today and to postpone to alternative date.
"Due to a problem with the overhead power supply near Paris, all services to/from Paris are subject to major delays and cancellations.
"Due to a problem with overhead power supply near Paris, services are also cancelled.
“If you are booked on these services, visit https://bddy.me/3zq8Sam to exchange.
“We strongly urge passengers to postpone their journey if travel is not essential .”
The issues follow similar problems suffered by Eurostar passengers over the weekend following more energy problems, as well as someone being hit by a train.
One fed up passenger said: “Well on my return trip and today no Eurostar trains due to a power failure.
“Another excuse, different day, and no information on when departure may happen.”
The problems have caused long queues at St Pancras station as customers look for answers as to how they can reach their destinations.
Earlier today air passengers also faced difficulties reaching the UK as a power cut near Luton Airport meant many flights were cancelled, while others were diverted hundreds of miles.
The issue started at around 6am and although it has since been fixed by engineers has affected flights for several hours.
Some were moments from landing at Luton before their flights were ordered to abort and instead sent to the likes of East Midlands Airport.
A spokesman for the airport said earlier: “Following a power failure in the area this morning, a temporary loss of navigational aids at the airport resulted in some disruption to flights.
“Engineers quickly resolved the issue and operations have returned to normal, although some knock-on delays are likely.
“Passengers should speak to their airlines for the status of their flight.
“We’re very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
An earlier fire alarm at Euston meant rail passengers were evacuated, causing delays of around an hour for people.
As lines quickly reopened, National Rail said on Twitter: “All lines have reopened following a fire alarm sounding at London Euston station.
“Trains running to / from this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes whilst service recovers.”
Earlier today Transport Secretary Grant Shapps took aim at operators for failing to be ready for the surge in demand, as he dismissed calls to send in the army.
