Transfer plans put in place for 'fabulous' Arsenal ace that could ruin Mikel Arteta's plans

Crystal Palace have made the signing of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah a priority when the summer transfer window opens, according to reports. Nketiah has come back into the starting XI in recent weeks and impressed but his contract situation remains precarious.

The 22-year-old scored twice against Chelsea on his return to the side and although he failed to find the net against Manchester United or West Ham, he continued to impress as the leading man in Mikel Arteta's team. But as things stand he will become a free agent when the season comes to an end.

Arsenal are set to carry out an overhaul of their attacking unit this summer, likely including the signing of at least one high-profile striker. It could mean Nketiah's game time diminishes further at the Emirates but according to MailOnline, Arsenal will make one more attempt to tempt him into a new deal at the Emirates.

"I thought Nketiah was the best player on the pitch against West Ham," Souness said following the Gunners' 2-1 against the Hammers. "He was always threatening. His contract is about to run out? I'm amazed by that. He will not be short of teams wanting him. He looked a threat throughout and he's up for the fight.

"I really like him and against West Ham, I thought he was fabulous. He's put himself in the shop window. If that is his general standard, he will not be short of teams wanting to take him."

But now a report from The Sun suggests the Gunners may struggle to fulfill Arteta's plans. Crystal Palace attempted to sign Nketiah during the summer transfer window but ultimately failed to match the asking price. But with him set to become available on a free transfer, the decision could be down solely to the striker.

Given how the fellow youngsters Conor Gallagher, Michael Olise and Marc Guehi have thrived under the guidance of Patrick Vieira, it is a switch that could be appealing to Nketiah.
