Transfer news LIVE!
Deadline Day produced perhaps more drama than expected as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham were all active as the January window closed. The day started with the Gunners exploring a stunning move for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, before Mikel Arteta set tongues wagging by confirming the club was “actively looking” for a new signing following Mikel Merino’s injury. In the end, two new faces did arrive at the academy, as Evan Mooney joined from St Mirren and Jaden Dixon arrived from Stoke. There was interest in Hearts striker James Wilson, but Spurs hijacked talks and lured the Scotland international to London.
Spurs fans would have wanted more than just an academy signing, but the day passed without the injury-ravaged squad being bolstered, and captain Cristian Romero posted on Instagram shortly after the deadline passed to vent his frustration at how the squad has been left. Across London, Chelsea recalled Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, with both Aaron Anselmino and David Datro Fofana heading in the opposite direction, as Axel Disasi joined West Ham on loan and Tyrique George joined Everton on a loan-to-buy deal.
Manchester United were also focused mainly on loan outgoings, while Jorgen Strand Larsen’s switch from Wolves to Crystal Palace for a club-record £48million was the biggest deal of the day, but the Eagles ran out of time to complete the £20m signing of Dwight McNeil. Jean-Phillipe Mateta’s move to AC Milan collapsed after issues with his medical amid suggestions that he could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The striker saw a dream move to AC Milan fall through on Deadline Day after the Serie A side had concerns over his persistent problems in his knee, which have hampered his form this term.
It leaves Mateta, who wanted to leave Palace during the window, still at Selhurst Park, and it is likely that he will be reintegrated back into the first-team fold despite the signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Eagles are due to sit down with the forward and discuss their options ahead of the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup on the horizon.

"I'd be very interested in doing it. I'm surprised people haven't taken him up.
"I think he was very excited about what we were saying. He knows all about the club, he's a big friend of Joe Hart and Joe has spoken to him - not on our behalf.

He said: “How can that be an own goal? It was going on target. If the keeper is not in the goal then it goes in. I don’t understand how that is an own goal. Premier League, please take a look at that and fix it for me.”

Tuesday 3 February 2026 14:17 , Oli GentPep Guardiola has jokingly fired a shot at Manchester City’s hierarchy over the club’s transfer spending, claiming that he does not “understand how” they have not spent more money.
It comes a day after the winter transfer window slammed shut, with City securing the £20million signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace earlier in the window, as well as the £64m arrival of Antoine Semenyo at the very start of January.
In the summer, City brought in a whole host of new players, with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, James Trafford and young midfielder Sverre Nypan all signed.

Cristiano Ronaldo salary 'revealed' as Al Nassr star goes on strike in Saudi Arabia
Tuesday 3 February 2026 10:40 , Alex DakersCristiano Ronaldo is at the centre of a power struggle in Saudi Arabia after walking out in protest over Al Nassr's transfer activity.
The Portugal great was absent from the matchday squad on Monday as Al Nassr beat Al Riyadh 1-0, with Sadio Mane on the scoresheet, and moved one point behind Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal.
It was a fifth win in a row for Al Nassr, who have steadied the ship after three defeats on the spin over the New Year severely hampered their title ambitions.
But Ronaldo played no part after - according to Portuguese outlet A Bola - making himself unavailable for selection, having grown frustrated at what he sees as a failure to strengthen the squad while domestic rivals continue to spend heavily.
The focus of his ire is reportedly the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns a 75 per cent stake in Saudi Arabia's four biggest clubs: Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli.
It is said that Ronaldo feels Al Nassr have not been backed sufficiently in the transfer market while their title rivals have splashed the cash. Al Nassr's only January additions were 21-year-old Iraq midfielder Hayder Abdulkareem and Saudi Arabia striker Abdullah AlHamdan.
Meanwhile, France great Karim Benzema has left Al-Ittihad for Al-Hilal on a free transfer, having himself gone on strike after reportedly being offered an "insulting" contract extension.
It remains to be seen if Ronaldo will end his strike before Friday night's home league game against Al-Ittihad, who are now without Benzema, but he continues to be the best-paid player on the planet.
But just how much is CR7 getting paid?

In turn, the Black Cats signed Nilson Angulo from Anderlecht for around £17.5million.

Who is James Wilson? Tottenham hijack Arsenal move for young Scotland star
Tuesday 3 February 2026 09:41 , Alex DakersTottenham have beaten Arsenal to the Deadline Day signing of James Wilson.
Standard Sport understands that the young Hearts striker will join Spurs on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.
Arsenal approached Hearts regarding a loan move for Wilson over the weekend, but Spurs have moved quickly to hijack the transfer talks.
The 18-year-old is enjoying a burgeoning reputation in Scotland, having last season broken into the first-team squad with six goals and three assists over 32 appearances - of which many were off the bench.
He form caught the eye of Scotland manager Steve Clarke, who in May 2024 made Wilson his country's youngest-ever debutant when he came on as a substitute against Greece aged 18 years and 17 days.

The Old Gold are still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, with it seemingly only a matter of time until their relegation is confirmed. Despite some recent improved performances, they remain 18 points from safety as things stand with 14 matches to go.
Why Dwight McNeil to Crystal Palace collapsed on Deadline Day
Tuesday 3 February 2026 08:36 , Alex DakersCrystal Palace have missed out on the signing of Dwight McNeil from Everton.
McNeil was due to make the switch from Merseyside to south London on loan for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy for £20million in the summer and become Palace’s second signing of transfer Deadline Day.
Standard Sport reported that Palace’s late interest in McNeil accelerated ahead of Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline.

However, it is understood that the paperwork was not submitted in time to ensure the deal got over the line and therefore, McNeil will remain at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the remainder of the season.
Elsewhere, the Eagles have added Jorgen Strand Larsen to their forward options, smashing their transfer record for a second time this month after signing Brennan Johnson earlier in the window.
Strand Larsen has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Selhurst Park, and Standard Sport understands the fee is a new club-record £43m with an extra £5m in add-ons.
Sounds good to us, Jørgen 🤞 pic.twitter.com/oTIDHGmhpe

Palace have managed to complete three deals in terms of incomings this window after signing Johnson from Tottenham and Evann Guessand on loan from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
Youngsters Owen Goodman and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have joined Barnsley and Stoke respectively on loan for the remainder of the season, but Jean-Philippe Mateta is staying put after a move to AC Milan collapsed due to a failed medical.

Who is Jeremy Jacquet? Liverpool's new £60m signing seen as key part of rebuild
Tuesday 3 February 2026 08:10 , Alex DakersLiverpool have announced the signing of highly-rated defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
As part of the deal - worth £60million - Jacquet will spend the remainder of the season with Rennes, before officially arriving at Anfield in the summer to bolster Arne Slot’s defensive options for next season.
Standard Sport understands that Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons.
The French youth international had previously been a transfer target for both Arsenal and Chelsea, but the Reds have beaten both to the 20-year-old’s signature.
The Athletic reported that a key reason for Jacquet’s decision to choose Liverpool over Chelsea was that he is seen as a ‘key part’ of the club’s rebuild, after the Premier League champions dropped a record £446million spend last summer.
The 20-year-old becomes the Reds third signing of the January transfer window after Senegalese defender Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeane Ndukwe, who will also link up with the club in the summer.
Jacquet could be a replacement for compatriot Ibrahima Konate at Liverpool, with the Frenchman’s future at the club still uncertain as he enters the final months of his contract.
But what does the promising newcomer - likened to Arsenal stars William Saliba and Gabriel - bring to the table?

Romero criticises Tottenham's 'disgraceful' squad shortage
Tuesday 3 February 2026 07:58 , Alex YoungCristian Romero appears to have taken a dig at the Tottenham board following the lack of activity on transfer Deadline Day.
Spurs are in the midst of a crippling injury crisis, and were missing 11 first-team stars for Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City.
After the game, Spurs head coach Thomas Frank reiterated that the club “remain active” in the transfer market heading into Deadline Day, but the Monday deadline passed with no further first-team additions.
Romero took to Instagram soon after the deadline to congratulate his team-mates for their efforts against City, and make a pointed remark about the club’s injury woes.
“Great effort from all my team-mates yesterday,” Romero wrote.
“They were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful,” he continued, accompanying the paragraph with a facepalm emoji.
“We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”

Alonso on three-man shortlist to replace Guardiola
Tuesday 3 February 2026 07:34 , Alex YoungXabi Alonso and Enzo Maresca are both candidates to replace Pep Guardiola should the long-standing Manchester City boss leave his post this summer.
According to reports, it is increasingly likely that Guardiola departs City this summer after 10 years in charge and the club are starting to plan for life without him.
The Daily Telegraph suggests that the club have drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace him.
Chief among the candidates is Alonso, who was sacked by Real Madrid earlier this month after a doomed six-month tenure, during which he struggled to match Los Blancos’ lofty standards.
He has been widely rumoured to be a candidate to take over from Arne Slot at Liverpool, where he spent several seasons as a player, though the Reds do not presently seem interested in replacing the Dutchman.

Ronaldo on strike at Al Nassr
Tuesday 3 February 2026 07:18 , Alex YoungCristiano Ronaldo was absent for Al Nassr's Saudi Pro League match on Monday amid reports he has fallen out with key figures over the club's transfer activity.
The 40-year-old Portugal forward had featured in every previous league game this season but was not named in Jorge Jesus' starting XI or on the bench for Monday's 1-0 triumph at Al Riyadh.
Reports have suggested Ronaldo is unhappy with the running of the club by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which also owns rivals Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ahli and Al Ittihad, amid concerns that other teams have been given preferential treatment in the transfer market.
Al Nassr have signed only 21-year-old Iraq midfielder Hayder Abdulkareem and Saudi Arabia striker Abdullah AlHamdan in the winter window and it was announced later on Monday that Al Hilal had secured the signature of France great Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad on a free transfer, having also added defender Pablo Mari to their ranks last month.

Arsenal fail to sign Merino replacement
Tuesday 3 February 2026 06:52 , Alex YoungMikel Arteta admitted Arsenal were "actively looking at options" to replace Mikel Merino in the closing hours of the window but were unable to bring in a replacement.
Merino is set to be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a fractured right foot which requires surgery and Arteta admitted he did not want to take any chances by leaving a hole in his already strong squad.
Arsenal will look to book their place in the Carabao Cup final with a win over Chelsea in tonight's second leg of the semi-final at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal already hold a 3-2 lead, but it remains to be seen who will play in the absence of Merino.
Ahead of the transfer deadline, Arteta said: "When you lose a big player like this with four months to go, and all the competitions to play for, you need to look and we need to do everything we possibly can to see if a player is available, and if not, we keep what we have."

The Portuguese star, now a forward for Al-Hilal’s Saudi Pro League title rivals Al-Nassr, boycotted his club’s game today in supposed protest of what he is said to view as insufficient transfer investment in Al-Nassr, who - like Al-Hilal - are owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Regardless, Benzema’s move has gone ahead after he fell out with old club Al-Ittihad over contract negotiations.

Matt Verri reports: Arsenal 'confident' of winger signing
Monday 2 February 2026 18:57 , Alex DakersArsenal are confident of completing a move for St Mirren winger Evan Mooney.
Talks have advanced between the two clubs and there is an expectation that a permanent deal will be wrapped up on Deadline Day.
The 18-year-old will join up with Arsenal's academy, rather than being involved in any first-team plans.
It is understood that St Mirren will have a sell-on clause included in the deal.
Arsenal have also held talks with Hearts to register their interest in another Scottish teenager, James Wilson.
That would have been for a loan deal until the end of the season, but it now looks likely that Wilson will instead join Tottenham.
Who is James Wilson? Young Scot at centre of Tottenham and Arsenal transfer battle
Monday 2 February 2026 18:54 , Alex DakersTottenham are locked in a battle with Arsenal to sign young Heart of Midlothian star James Wilson.
The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most talked-about names of the winter transfer window, and it was revealed early on Deadline Day that Arsenal had held talks with the Scottish Premiership side over a potential loan deal for the striker.
Hearts boss Derek McIness confirmed on February 2 that Arsenal had opened discussions with the club over a move for Wilson.
Tottenham then sought to gazump their local rivals, moving swiftly to reportedly wrap up a loan with an option to buy the forward in the summer.
It is believed that both clubs saw an initial loan spell as a trial period for Wilson to showcase his abilities before making a decision on whether to keep him permanently at the end of the current campaign.

Dom Smith reports: Chelsea confirm Sarr recall, Anselmino exit
Monday 2 February 2026 18:52 , Alex DakersChelsea have confirmed that Mamadou Sarr has been recalled from his loan at Strasbourg.

The Blues have also confirmed that Aaron Anselmino has headed in the opposite direction on a loan that will last for the remainder of the season.
These were the two deals we knew were definitely on the cards on Deadline Day at Chelsea.
There could be more exits to come, with David Datro Fofana poised to join Anselmino at Strasbourg and with Axel Disasi having undergone a medical at West Ham with a loan to the Hammers on the table for the exiled defender.
There are some reports that player demands could cause Disasi’s exit to fall through, though.

Monday 2 February 2026 18:48 , Alex DakersThere are just 15 minutes left until the January transfer window officially slams shut in the Premier League.

Will Jean-Philippe Mateta remain at Crystal Palace until the summer?
Jorgen Strand Larsen’s arrival at Selhurst Park is yet to be confirmed, and the Eagles have launched a late bid for Everton’s Dwight McNeil, whose Merseyside exit may hinge on the completion of fellow winger Tyrique George’s loan from Chelsea.
Are there going to be any more late moves involving Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool, or anyone else?

Palace finalise loan move
Monday 2 February 2026 18:26 , Alex DakersIn the meantime, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has joined Stoke City on loan from Palace for the remainder of the season.
Standard Sport understands the move is a straight loan, with no option or obligation to buy.
The 23-year-old winger has found game time hard to come by at Palace in the last two seasons and the Eagles were prepared to sell him permanently this month, just as they were last summer.
He ended up joining Turkish Super Lig side Caykur Rizespor on a season-long loan in the summer, scoring four goals in 13 appearances during an impressive spell before being recalled early last month.
Millwall made a late attempt to sign him and there was a level of interest from French club Lille too, but Rak-Sakyi has now agreed to join Stoke for the remainder of the season.

Crystal Palace latest: Mateta, Strand Larsen, McNeil
Monday 2 February 2026 18:20 , Alex DakersThere is a growing expectation that Crystal Palace’s move for Everton winger Dwight McNeil is completed before tonight’s deadline, writes Sam Tabuteau.
Palace have just under an hour to conclude a deal for McNeil after submitting a £20 million bid for the 26-year-old earlier today.
Standard Sport understands that despite being pushed for time, there is confidence that a deal can be finalised.
McNeil has struggled for game time this season, featuring in 14 of Everton’s 24 Premier League games.
Palace, meanwhile, are keen to add attacking depth to their squad as they look to make a charge for the Conference League in the second half of the season.

The Eagles also hope to wrap up a club-record deal for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has completed a medical ahead of a £48m move to Selhurst Park.
Palace are set to pay an up front fee of £43m with a further £5m in add-ons, eclipsing the £35m they paid to bring in Brennan Johnson from Tottenham earlier in the window.
A deal for Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave the club also remains in the works heading into the final hour of the window.
Mateta was set to join AC Milan in a £30m deal before the Serie A giants pulled out after multiple medical tests aimed at discovering the extent of a knee injury the French forward has been carrying.

'We will see': Tonali's agent discusses Arsenal 'opportunity' as Arteta reveals new transfer plan
Monday 2 February 2026 18:09 , Alex DakersHere’s some more on the Tonali to Arsenal links...
The agent of Sandro Tonali has revealed Newcastle were never going to entertain the idea of letting the midfielder leave amid shock links to Arsenal.
On the morning of transfer Deadline Day, reports in Germany claimed Arsenal were considering a move for the Italy international after losing Mikel Merino to injury.
However, Newcastle quickly moved to dismiss those reports, with the Telegraph describing the Gunners’ apparent interest in Tonali as “complete rubbish”.
With that said, the Athletic have reported that Tonali was offered to Arsenal by an agent which saw the club explore a deal, though, crucially, no contact was made with Newcastle and it’s clear that the 25-year-old will be staying put.
The midfielder’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, has insisted there were never any talks with the Gunners, though.
Riso went on to add that March could be a key month with regards to determining Tonali’s valuation ahead of a potential summer move - but only on the condition that Newcastle have a change of heart.

DEADLINE DAY COUNTDOWN: ONE HOUR TO GO
Monday 2 February 2026 18:00 , Alex DakersThere’s just ONE hour left of this winter transfer window, folks!
For Premier League clubs, that is - technically speaking.

Crystal Palace table £20m bid for Everton's McNeil
Monday 2 February 2026 17:39 , Alex DakersCrystal Palace have submitted a bid of £20 million for Everton midfielder Dwight McNeil, it has been reported.
The 26-year-old may only be allowed to leave if the Toffees complete their signing of Chelsea winger Tyrique George on loan with an option to buy.
Sky Sports reports that Everton have yet to respond to Palace’s offer, but the two sides will have to act quickly - and utilise a deal sheet - if they are to get everything done before tonight’s deadline.

Arsenal 'asked question' about Bayern midfielder Goretzka after Merino injury
Monday 2 February 2026 17:30 , Alex DakersArsenal are rumoured to have enquired about Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka’s availability in light of the injury suffered to Mikel Merino but nothing is “expected to happen there” before tonight’s 7pm deadline, per talkSPORT.

The Premier League leaders are “happy with the strength of their squad heading into the run-in” added journalist Alex Crook.
Meanwhile, the agent of Sandro Tonali has rubbished claims (see post at 4.57pm GMT) that the Newcastle midfielder’s representatives approached Arsenal over a potential Deadline Day move.
“We never had any conversation with Arsenal,” Giuseppe Riso has said.
The Italian’s agent added: “Newcastle were never going to let Tonali leave in January. There’s absolutely nothing into it. We didn’t even talk about it.”
Spurs seal Wilson loan in Arsenal hijack - reports
Monday 2 February 2026 17:21 , Alex DakersTottenham have reportedly just clinched a loan move for Hearts striker James Wilson.
The 18-year-old Scotland international was being pursued by Arsenal today, and as of a few hours ago it sounded like the Gunners were winning the race for his signature.
Now, though, Fabrizio Romano has given the “here we go” stamp of approval on Wilson moving to Spurs, on a loan for the rest of the campaign with an option to buy.
A medical is happening now for the young forward, with formal steps to follow, but Romano suggests Spurs sealed the deal by offering a loan with buy option clause as opposed to the “trial” offer tabled by Arsenal.
Wilson is expected to join Spurs’ U21 squad to continue his development.
