Despite a trophy-laden time at Chelsea, it appears Alonso's time at Stamford Bridge is poised to end and he is poised to join Spanish giants Barcelona. He has 29 goals and 211 appearances to his name since joining the London side in 2017.
And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the final transfer fee the Stamford Bridge side will receive from the Catalan side will be less than €10m, which works out at £8.4m. The negotiations over the move are said to be in its last stages since last Friday and the move is poised to be completed soon.
Alonso was left out of Chelsea's squad over the weekend which beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park. Boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that was Alonso's wish following the victory as a move to the Camp Nou moves closer.
Tuchel said: "That is the case. He tries to leave and we agreed to this wish.
"That's why it would not have made sense to put him on the pitch today. He would've been on the pitch otherwise but in this situation, it was the right thing to do."
Alonso moved to Italian side Fiorentina in the summer of 2013 as moved to the continent despite the offer of a new contract. He scored five goals in 84 games for the club before moving to Chelsea in 2017.
He spent the second half of the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Sunderland. He played 20 times for the Black Cats.
