A January move for Nottingham Forest attacker Xande Silva looks to have fallen through.
The Portuguese was expected to return to Aris Thessaloniki - where he spent last season on loan - before the transfer window closes on Monday.
However, the word from contacts in Greece is that Aris’ transfer plans have since changed, and they have opted against completing the deal.
Money earmarked to spend on Silva is said to now be allocated for other business, ending the club’s pursuit of the Reds man.
Aris had tried to sign Silva in the summer before he made the switch to the City Ground, and had been chasing him for much of this month.
There was disagreement, though, over whether any move would be permanent or on loan.
The 24-year-old has made four appearances in the Garibaldi, including in midweek, when he hit the post after coming off the bench for the final minutes of the 3-0 win over Barnsley.
So far, his only start for the club was in the 1-0 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town last month.
Forest are looking to bolster their attacking options before the deadline, having already brought in striker Keinan Davis, as well as defenders Steve Cook and Richie Laryea.
They have allowed front man Lyle Taylor to join Championship rivals Birmingham City on loan, leaving Lewis Grabban and Davis as the out-and-out forwards on the books.
Asked whether that would mean enough striker options for the Championship run-in, boss Steve Cooper said on Tuesday night: “We’d have Lewis and Keinan, and Xande (Silva), and Julian Larsson was in the squad today as well, although obviously he didn’t get changed,” said the Welshman.
“There’s a bit more of the transfer window to go as well.”
