Residents in a Nottinghamshire village with only a handful of houses and a pub have shared why they love living there. Located less than ten miles from Nottingham is Normanton-on-the-Wolds, a peaceful village between the A52 and A46 near Plumtree and Kinoulton, which is best known for its pub.
The Plough At Normanton - that was crowned Nottinghamshire's best pub months before the coronavirus pandemic struck - has been operating in the village for decades and was taken over in 2021 by The Secret Pub Company. General manager, Becky Cassapi, described the pub as being "the heart of the village".
She said: "We know all of our neighbours around here, and we make sure we have a good relationship with them. We are really respectful of what's going on and they all feel welcome.

"We get a lot of people popping in for a drink after work and we do a evening on a Sunday which is really popular with our regulars too. I think we have settled in really well in the village and we know most people by name, and we know them by drink and we love having everyone in here."
Speaking of a renovation to the pub, Becky added: "The bar is the original, we have just varnished it and they are the original fire places we've just had them refurbished them so we can keep that heart of the pub." Normanton-on-the- Wolds resident, Vanessa Roberts, has lived in the village for 29 years.
When asked what made her move to the village, Vanessa replied: "Basically the pub and we had some friends that lived here and it's a pretty village."
She continued: "It's the sort of place you would need to have a car as when I moved here the bus used to go through the village and there was a school but too, but those stopped so that's an amenity that we've lost. Plumtree has a pub and a restaurant too, and we are within walking distance and Keyworth has lots of other amenities nearby."
Speaking of her favourite parts of the village, Vanessa added: "The fact that it's got a very lovely pub, it has a lovely church that you can walk to and it's quiet.
Semi-retired Tom Gormanly, 66, also moved to Normanton-on-the-Wolds due to friends in the area. He said: "It's so nice not having any street lights, it's so dark and the environment is really nice."
Tom stated that "the tranquillity" is his favourite thing about the village. When asked about the pub, he replied: "I used to go every week, but less so now."
