Tributes have poured in for a "lovely man with a heart of gold" who was killed in his apartment in Tralee, Co Kerry on Sunday.
Joe Brosnan, 52, is believed to have been attending a gathering with a number of other people when a row broke out, and he was fatally stabbed.
Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene at around 7pm on May 22 where they found Mr Brosnan seriously injured.
Sadly, despite paramedic's best efforts to save Mr Brosnan's life, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The father-of-two and grandfather-of-one was described as a "gentle soul" with a "great sense of humour" by those who knew him.
His death notice on rip.ie says that he died "unexpectedly" and his funeral is set to take place in Our Lady and St. Brendan’s Church in Tralee on Saturday, May 28.
It reads: "Joseph Brosnan of Abbey Court and formerly Connolly Park, Tralee, Co. Kerry, died unexpectedly on 22nd May 2022, beloved son of Seán and Phil, dearest father of Marie & Rachel and brother of Seán, Philip, Martina, Linda, Michelle and the late Liam.
"Sadly missed by his loving family, his grandson Alec, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends."
His body will be reposing at the Gleasure Funeral Home in Tralee on Friday May 27, from 4pm to 5.30pm.
His funeral will be arriving to Our Lady and St. Brendan’s Church, Tralee on Saturday morning at 10.30am. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am and will be streamed online on the parish website and he will be buried afterwards in Rath Cemetery.
The Tralee community have been left in shock by the Joe's tragic death with many taking to an online book of condolences to pay tribute.
One former neighbour wrote: "Sincere sympathy to Joseph's family on his passing. Lived next door to each other in Boherbee. A lovely man with a heart of gold. Will miss our chats. Rest in peace dear friend."
Another described him as a 'lovely man', saying: "I have no words for Joe's mom, dad, daughters, grandchild, brothers and sisters, neices, nephews and all his family and friends.
"All I can say is that Joe was a lovely man, many a laugh we had over the years he had a great sense of humour. My heart is broken for you all and know that ye are all in my thoughts and prayers. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace."
A third said: "Sincere sympathy to all the family on the sad passing of Joe. A real gentleman & a pleasure to work with him at the Earl of Desmond Hotel some years ago. May he Rest in Peace."
And another paid tribute to his 'gentle soul', writing: "To Sean, Phil and all the Brosnan family, please accept my sincere condolences on the untimely passing of Joseph, may his gentle soul rest in peace."
Meanwhile, two men who were arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing have been released without charge.
Gardaí released a man in his 30s and a man aged in his 50s on Tuesday and are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
