Trains came to a standstill after a giant tortoise became stuck on a track which was 'too heavy to lift'.
The injured tortoise left commuters frustrated after trains were halted in Norfolk - as the creature caused disruption to the railways for more than an hour Monday afternoon.
Greater Anglia rail informed commuters trains between Norwich and Stansted Airport would be delayed due to the wayward tortoise.
The rail company confirmed to passengers the train was blocked by 'animals on the railway'.
After being told the reason why their train was delayed, concerned commuters on the way to Norwich posted pictures of the injured animal informing the operator the tortoise was still unable to move.
Diane Akers said the tortoise, which had a nasty gash on the top of its shell, was still stuck. reports BBC.
She wrote: "It's still alive but injured. I couldn't believe my eyes to be honest!"
A Greater Anglia customer adviser confirmed the injured animal was taken to a specialist for treatment.
Thankfully, the injured tortoise will make a full recovery as the rail company tweeted: "We have been informed that he will make a full recovery."
Commuters were relieved to find out the animal would make a recovery - but Lydia Jane White joked out of all the reasons for a train to be delayed this was the most unexpected.
She tweeted: '"Train delayed because of a giant tortoise, too heavy to lift, stuck on the train tracks after having escaped from a local wildlife centre" is not something I thought I'd ever hear from a train driver!'.
Despite the track being opened 90 minutes later there were delays throughout the rest of the day due to the incident.
