Scots trainee chef charged after 'attacking man with a microwave'

A man has appeared in court charged with attacking another man with a microwave.

Connor Moran faces claims he also used a piece of wood to attack John Paul Mullen.

It’s claimed the attack took place in Queen Street, Paisley, on Friday, June 3, and saw Moran and another raining kicks and punches on his body.

Moran, 20, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday to face two charges.

The first states he “did whilst acting with another assault John Paul Mullen and did repeatedly punch and kick him on the body, strike him on the body with a microwave and strike him on the body with a piece of wood”.

Prosecutors allege he was on bail over five other Paisley Sheriff Court cases and one Glasgow Sheriff Court case at the time of the offence.

He is also accused of breaking a special condition to sign on at Paisley's Mill Street Police Station every Saturday, between the hours of 10am and 12pm, on Saturday, June 4.

Defence solicitor Amy Spencer pleaded not guilty to both charges on Moran's behalf and asked for him to be granted bail.

She said he would be able to stay with his grandparents, who had taken him in at an early age due to neglect by his parents, and had been "raised by them throughout his life".

And she said that Moran, who is training to be a chef, had a professional cooker exam next week which he hoped to sit.

But Sheriff Simon Pender said that "due to the number of other" court cases Moran had outstanding he did not think bail was appropriate, and remanded him in custody.

A trial was set for June and a trial has been scheduled for July.
