The family of Vicky Hamilton, who was abducted in Bathgate by Peter Tobin said the serial killer “does not deserve any more of their thoughts” following his death at the weekend.
The notorious monster was pronounced dead at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on Saturday at the age of 76.
He had been chained to a hospital bed after falling in jail and was refusing food and medication.
Tobin abducted 15-year-old Vicky as she waited for a bus after visiting elder sister Sharon in Bathgate on February 10, 1991. In a statement posted on Facebook, her said they would not be celebrating the killer’s passing.
It read: “With the unconfirmed news of Tobin’s passing, the family would like to remind people of what we said outside Dundee High Court when he was finally found guilty of our sisters murder. We no longer wish to talk about him. Unfortunately the popularity of Serial Killers and True Crime will make him infamous for a long time and his victims will all but become a footnote in his history.
“We remember Vicky, we remember her laughter, her smile and we want to keep that memory after all the years of having no idea what had happened to her, followed by heartbreak of losing our mum not long after Vicky went missing. He does not deserve anymore of our families thoughts.
“If he has taken more victims, our hearts go out to their families and can only wish one day they get the closure they so badly deserve. We will not be celebrating any passing but instead will be remembering Vicky, Angelika and Dinah along with any other victims, and we respectfully ask for others to do the same.”
Tobin, who also had cancer, had been serving a whole life sentence at HMP Edinburgh for the cruel killings of teenager Vicky, Angelika Kluk and Dinah McNicol.
In 2007, he was found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh of raping and murdering Polish student Angelika Kluk.
The case prompted detectives to look into Tobin’s past, where he was investigated over the disappearances of missing teenagers Vicky and Dinah.
Vicky had been missing for 16 years before her remains were dug up in 2007 by forensic officers during a search operation of the murderer’s former home in Kent. It was there where they also found the body of missing 18-year-old Dinah.
Tobin was convicted of Dinah’s murder in 2009.
Police Scotland confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson said: “At 6.04am on Saturday, October 8, 2022, officers attended at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following the death of a 76-year-old man.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The Scottish Prison Service declined to comment.
