Fresh tributes have been paid to a Rangers fan who died on a supporters' bus as he made his way home from the Light Blues' victorious clash with Motherwell this week.
Robbie Stewart, 73, was on his way home to Perth on board the Perth True Blues' coach on Wednesday December 28 when he became unwell. Tragically he could not be saved, and Rangers confirmed his passing in a statement issued on Friday.
The Tayside supporters' group issued a statement of its own later that day on Facebook, calling Robbie a "dear friend" and a "true gentleman". It also shared images of Robbie among friends and fellow supporters enjoying hospitality on match days.
The group said: “'No One Should Go To A Football Match And Never Return Home" – those famous words rang true and devastated our club on Wednesday night. It’s been an emotional few days for everyone connected to Perth True Blues on the sudden and sad passing of loyal member Robbie Stewart.
"This dear friend, true gentleman and great character of ours will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts are with Rosemary and family at this time. And our heartfelt thanks goes to the emergency services, Louden Tavern and Docherty's bus company for all they done on Wednesday night."
Pals and fellow supporters chimed in with further tributes to the fallen fan, who is understood to have worked for Arnold Clark in the Fair City. Tam Stewart said: "My condolences to Robbie's family and everyone connected to Perth True Blues. RIP Robbie, was a pleasure knowing you."
Linsey Moffat said: "Devastating for anyone who knew him. It's so hard when one of the good ones go and can't begin to comprehend what you all went through on Wednesday night."
Karen Young added: "I am very sorry to read this. Robbie was a lovely man and sat behind me at Ibrox. Condolences to Robbie’s family."
The Rangers Supporters Association said: "All at the Rangers Supporters Association have been saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Robbie Stewart from the Perth True Blues Supporters Club on Wednesday night. We send our deepest condolences to Robbie's family and friends at this time."
Fife Loyal Rangers Supporters Club posted: "Our condolences to the members, family and friends of Perth True Blues. RIP Robbie Stewart who sadly passed away whilst on the bus."
Rangers thumped Motherwell 3-0 in Wednesday's game at Ibrox, with goals from Alfredo Morelos, Connor Goldson and Mark Tillman.
The club said of Robbie's passing: "Rangers Football Club is immensely saddened to confirm the death of a supporter following Wednesday's match. Robbie Stewart, aged 73, became unwell aboard his supporters’ club bus, the Perth True Blues. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s friends and family."
