Following devastating flash floods along the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli corridor on August 26, a booming disaster-linked economy has emerged across Trishuli Bazaar, Bidur, and Dhunche. A sudden influx of international journalists, aid workers, structural engineers, loss assessors, and grieving families searching for missing relatives has overwhelmed local infrastructure, sending the costs of lodging, transport, and local assistance soaring.
Hoteliers in Trishuli Bazaar and northern settlements reported receiving more guests over the past week than in the previous four to five years combined. Properties on higher, safer ground reached full capacity almost immediately after international relief and news teams began arriving.
