Police are appealing for witnesses to a motorbike crash which saw a man die in Ashington.
The incident - which only involved one vehicle - took place shortly before 9.55am on Friday. One man, aged 54, suffered fatal injuries. His next-of-kin have been informed and are currently being supported.
The collision took place on Sheepwash Road in the Northumberland town near to the junction with Bothel Bank. The red Honda motorbike was seen travelling northbound, but collided with street furniture in the road. Police officers do not yet know why.
Emergency services attended but were unable to save the man's life. The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours but has since fully reopened.
Northumbria Police's Motor Patrols team has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances around the collision, and officers are appealing for witnesses - especially anyone with dashcam footage - to come forward.
Sgt Ben Rutherford said: "This is an devastating incident which has sadly resulted in the death of a man. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones while they try to process what has happened.
"An investigation is ongoing and we are determined to establish the full circumstances leading up to the collision, and speak to anyone who may have information that could help us.
"This happened in a busy location during the daytime – and we would like to hear from any motorists or witnesses who might have saw what happened, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage. Your information, no matter how small it might seem, could prove vital during our enquiries."
