People going to the airport on Thursday and Friday will need to allow more travel time as disruptions will be in place for the Prime Minister of New Zealand's arrival in Canberra.
ACT Policing issued an alert about planned changes to traffic conditions between Canberra Airport and the Parliamentary Triangle after 8pm.
"Tonight (Thursday, 15 August 2024) police will be managing the arrival of a guest of the Australian Government," a spokesperson said.
There will be further planned disruptions on Friday, August 16, to allow a motorcade to travel from the Parliamentary precinct to Yarralumla, and then Canberra Airport.
"People travelling to Canberra Airport on Thursday evening or Friday afternoon should leave with plenty of time to make scheduled flights, as well as factoring in potential delays," the spokesperson said.
Police wanted to remind drivers delayed in traffic to obey the directions and not break road rules if stopped, including crossing verges, paths or median strips.
"Disruptions will be kept to a minimum, however the safety and security of pedestrians, drivers, and visitors remains the priority for ACT Policing," the spokesperson said.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will be flying in from Sydney where he previously met with the Ministers for Infrastructure, Resources and Transport.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will welcome Prime Minister Luxon in Canberra for the annual leaders' meeting before his departure on Friday. This is the NZ PM's third visit to Australia.
"Australia is our closest partner and only formal ally. Working hand in hand is vital as we face an increasingly challenging global environment. I look forward to sitting down with my friend, Prime Minister Albanese, to discuss areas of common interest," Mr Luxon said on Monday.
