Firefighters were scrambled to lorry fire on the North Circular which caused major tailbacks near Chingford.
Plumes of smoke could be seen across the dual carriageway on Wednesday.
Fire crews were making the scene safe as they put out the blaze.
The fire broke out on a lorrycarrying scrap metal near the Cook’s Ferry slip road.
The London Fire Brigade Tweeted just after 11am:” Firefighters are currently tackling this vehicle fire on the A406 in #Chingford. The incident is causing significant traffic delays so please avoid the area where possible.”

An update later added: “A vehicle fire on the A406 in #Chingford has now been brought under control. A lorry carrying scrap metal has been damaged. There have been no reports of injuries. It may take some time for traffic delays in the area to clear. ©@MPSWForest”.
Tfl camera footage of the scene showed queuing traffic around the scene as emergency services worked.
Paramedics were sent to the scene but there were no injuries.
