Tourist slammed for dangling off 2600m-high cliff while his kids play nearby

A tourist has caused stomachs to lurch by dangling his legs off a 2,600 metre cliff - while his children played nearby.

Over the years, influencers have been going to more extreme lengths to get that 'perfect' Instagram photo - but often this can include potentially dangerous situations.

In 2021 social media pro Sofia Cheung tragically died after falling off a waterfall as her helpless friends watched on in horror.

Now father-of-two and adventure tourist Aaron Eveland, from Hawaii, has garnered attention after he shared a clip of himself in Yosemite National Park, dividing opinion with his actions.

In the clip, the filmmaker can be seen sat on a narrow ledge sticking out from the top of the Half Dome peak, which towers 2,600 metres above the ground below.

As he dangles himself over the precipice below, Aaron’s children play on the rocks behind him.

Aaron shuffled on his bum to get to the edge of the ledge while holding a 360 degree camera in one hand.

The videos shows the terrifying drop opening up below him as he hangs his legs off the sides of the mountain.

On his page, @makaicreative, Aaron captioned the video: "No Half Dome summit is complete without dangling your feet.

"From this vantage point you can see the 'Thank God Ledge.' Years ago I climbed the Regular route and it took 2.5 days.

"It would be so rad to do the route again with my kids in the future. We are hopefully headed there this fall with some smaller multi-pitch climbs to tick."

The father’s video was shared to the Instagram page @TouronsofYellowstone where thousands of people weighed in on the situation.

One gobsmacked hiker wrote: “Dude my hands and feet are sweating from watching that. I go on hikes with my kids and there’s no way in hell I’d like them stand that close with nobody near them.”

Another added: “He’s putting too much trust into the hand thats not holding the selfie stick.”

“What if the rock breaks,” gasped a social media user. “This is giving me so much anxiety.”

“I got lightheaded watching this,” noted another.

However, not everybody thought Aaron was doing anything wrong.

One person wrote: “People on here are talking about child endangerment and being an unfit parent while they are sitting on their phones and their kids are sitting in their rooms playing video games.

“I take my daughter traveling and have climbed in volcanoes, dangled off of cliffs, went fast, and played hard. Yes there are risk involved.

“I’ve explained to my child if something were to happen to us while taking risk then we went out doing what we love.

“Experience the world. Living is a risk.”
