PHUKET: A foreign tourist was rescued at Nai Thon Beach in Phuket after ignoring lifeguards' warnings and entering the sea despite a red flag.
The incident occurred at Nai Thon Beach in Sakhu, Thalang district, where lifeguards had warned the woman not to swim because of dangerous waves and currents.
Despite the warnings and red flags along the beach, the tourist reportedly insisted on entering the water, saying, "I flew here to swim."
She was soon swept away by strong waves and currents and was unable to return to shore. She was unconscious when lifeguards reached her, and they provided first aid until she regained consciousness.
Lifeguards urged visitors to swim only in red-and-yellow zones monitored by lifeguards. They stressed that red flags indicate potentially life-threatening conditions.
