Tourist baffled after visiting Sports Direct - and finding no mugs

There's nothing that unites Brits like our love of tea, fish and chips and the BBC. Oh, and Sports Direct mugs. Nobody quite knows how they got there, but you'll find thousands, maybe even millions, of the branded mugs in kitchens across the country.

Featuring the shop's bright red and blue logo, they're hard to miss - whether or not they take pride of place on your countertop or have been relegated to a dark cupboard.

You might even go so far as to say the mugs are a cornerstone of British life. The best part is that we're all in on our joke.

Everyone knows just how far-reaching the product's fame goes, and you're always bound to get a reaction if you bring up the ubiquitous mug.

So, you can imagine one tourist's shock when they visited a Sports Direct shop and came away empty-handed. Voicing their disappointment in a post to Reddit, the shopper claimed they struggled to spot any mugs during one particular visit.

The Reddit user, 'visiting from Australia', wrote: "Been to Sports Direct, no mugs. I've been mislead." In response, commenters were quick to share a number of tongue-in-cheek replies.

One person said: "You don't buy a Sports Direct mug, they just appear in your house." A second advised: "Go into any charity shop, they’ll be at least 1."

Meanwhile, a jokester quipped: "If you don't see the mug, you are the mug." And another person wrote: "Look in the mirror and you’ll find one."

"I walked right into that one," the author admitted. Thankfully, the shopper can still get their fill of classic mugs, should they wish to.

Sports Direct's giant mug is available on its website for £1, where it comes with glowing reviews from customers.

One impressed customer said: "Good size, and at a great price, although did prefer it when they were free..." And an excited fan wrote: "MUG COMES FREE WITH BALL AND BAG. MUG AND TEA MAKE HAPPI (sic)."
